Give Me A Head With Hair...

Too much knowledge makes the head bald.” – Russian proverb

While human hair is virtually indestructable (except for the guy who burned off my mullet at the Rush concert at the Rosemont Horizon in the 80's.  Thanks a lot, dude), our hair is more of a unique population than a single entity.  For those of us who are follicularly challenged, we mourn the loss of each and every hair as if it were a child.  The reality is that our individual follicles have a finite lifespans.  No two hairs have the same life but that life is much longer than you would expect.  The inidividual hair lives 3-7 years on average (about as long as the average dairy cow).  Some may live for decades, which means some hairs have seen the hairstyles of the 60's, 70's and 80's.

That said, you will lose almost half of your scalp plumage before people make comments about your impending baldness.  Which is also a reason why blondes have more fun.  While the average human averages 100,000 follicles at any given time, blondes average 146,000 follicles (a full 60,000 more than redheads).

Gray hair is to be honored; a bald head deserves a bow.” – Proverb
